A PTO shaft (power take-off shaft) is the mechanical link that transfers rotational energy from your tractor’s engine to the batwing mower’s cutting mechanism. The process begins at the tractor’s PTO stub shaft, which protrudes from the rear of the tractor transmission. When the operator engages the PTO, the tractor engine’s power is routed through the transmission to this stub shaft, which rotates at either 540 RPM or 1000 RPM depending on the tractor configuration. The PTO shaft yoke on the tractor end of the PTO driveline shaft slides onto this stub shaft’s splined profile (such as 1.375″-6 spline or 1.750″-20 spline), creating a positive mechanical connection that transmits torque without slippage.<\/p>\n

At the implement end, the PTO shaft yoke connects to the batwing mower’s power divider (also called a gearbox input shaft), which splits the incoming rotary power into three output paths: one for each wing and one for the center section. Without a properly functioning PTO driveline shaft, this entire power distribution system cannot operate.<\/p>\n
