Every one of those machines relies on a properly functioning tractor PTO shaft to transfer rotational power from the tractor’s power take-off output to the cutter’s gearbox. It must handle high rotational speeds, typically 540 RPM at the tractor’s PTO output across variable operating angles while absorbing vibration, protecting against sudden overloads, and doing all of this reliably through hundreds of operating hours in dirt, debris, and moisture. The CMN shaft for Woods BrushBull models addresses each of those demands through deliberate material and design choices rather than simply matching competitor dimensions.<\/p>\n<p>At the core of the assembly, the inner and outer PTO shaft tubes are cold-drawn from high-carbon steel and profiled in a six-star (or lemon) cross-section to maximize torque transfer while allowing the shaft to telescope freely as the cutter’s angle and distance from the tractor change. Unlike round profiles, the multi-lobe tube geometry prevents rotational play between inner and outer sections, a common wear mechanism in lower-cost aftermarket shafts that shows up as vibration and slop well before the shaft actually fails.
