The entire system relies on precise torque transmission at a fixed rotational speed, either 540 RPM or 1000 RPM depending on the tractor’s PTO configuration.<\/p>\n<p>The working process begins when the operator engages the tractor’s PTO clutch. The PTO output stub, which features a standardized spline pattern (such as 1.375″-6 for 540 RPM or 1.375″-21 for 1000 rpm PTO shaft systems), begins to rotate. The PTO shaft yoke on the tractor end of the driveline is splined to match this output stub and locks onto it, transferring rotational energy into the shaft assembly. When the operator has selected the PTO shaft with slip clutch option, a friction disc pack is positioned inline with the driveline. Under normal operating conditions, the clutch pack transfers full torque. However, if the mower blades strike a solid object like a stump or a rock, the resulting torque spike causes the clutch discs to slip momentarily, absorbing the shock energy and preventing it from traveling back through the tractor PTO shaft to the tractor’s transmission.
