In this case, the PTO driveline shaft connects your tractor to a Schulte batwing mower, delivering the torque required to spin the mower’s cutting blades at the correct operating speed. The process begins at the tractor’s rear PTO output stub, which rotates at either 540 RPM or 1000 RPM depending on the tractor configuration. The main shaft’s input yoke slides onto the tractor’s splined PTO output and locks into place using a tapered pin connection.<\/p>\n<p>Once engaged, the tractor’s engine spins the PTO shaft tractor output, and the rotational force travels through the CAT 7\/8 SFT SH constant velocity main shaft. Unlike conventional Hooke-style universal joints that create cyclic speed variations at operating angles, the constant velocity design on this shaft ensures uniform rotational speed is maintained even when the mower is articulated or operating on uneven ground. This is particularly important for batwing mowers, where the center and wing sections often operate at different angles simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>The rotational energy then passes through the connecting yoke assembly into the mower’s center gearbox. From there, the power is distributed through internal gear trains to each wing gearbox via the S8 or S9 wing shafts. Each wing shaft transmits torque to its respective gearbox, which in turn drives the cutting blade assemblies beneath each mower wing. The FT44 friction clutch sits in series with the connecting driveline and acts as a torque limiter. When the mower blade strikes a solid object such as a rock, stump, or fence post, the sudden spike in resistance would normally send a destructive shock wave back through the entire driveline.
