The tractor’s engine generates power, which is routed through the transmission to a dedicated PTO output stub at the rear of the tractor. This output stub typically rotates at a standardized speed of 540 RPM (for this model) and features a splined profile that engages with the input PTO shaft yoke of the driveline assembly.<\/p>\n<p>When the operator engages the PTO, the tractor-side yoke begins rotating, transferring torque through the first PTO shaft universal joint into the main PTO shaft tube. The universal joint allows the shaft to operate at an angle relative to the tractor’s PTO output, which is necessary because the rotary cutter’s input is not always perfectly aligned with the tractor. The torque then travels through the telescoping tube section of the shaft. This telescoping design uses inner and outer tubes with matched spline profiles that slide within each other, allowing the overall shaft length to adjust as the distance between the tractor and the implement changes during field operations, for example, when the tractor traverses a dip or hill or when the 3-point hitch is raised or lowered.<\/p>\n<p>At the implement end of the driveline, the torque passes through a second universal joint (or, in the case of the pull-type CV configuration, a constant velocity joint) and into the implement-side PTO shaft yoke, which connects directly to the rotary cutter’s gearbox input shaft. The gearbox then converts the horizontal rotational energy from the driveline into vertical rotation that spins the cutter blades beneath the deck.
