At the core of the assembly, the inner and outer PTO shaft tubes are cold-drawn from high-carbon steel and profiled in a six-star (or lemon) cross-section to maximize torque transfer while allowing the shaft to telescope freely as the cutter’s angle and distance from the tractor change. Unlike round profiles, the multi-lobe tube geometry prevents rotational play between inner and outer sections, a common wear mechanism in lower-cost aftermarket shafts that shows up as vibration and slop well before the shaft actually fails. The outer profile of the tube is precision-ground to ensure a smooth sliding fit with the inner profile, which translates to less friction heating during telescoping cycles.<\/p>\n
