The gearbox’s aluminium housing protects the internal bevel gear set and bearings from the corrosive fertilizer environment while maintaining the precise shaft alignment necessary for efficient, low-loss power transmission. Together, these functions convert the tractor’s mechanical power into the specific speed and torque combination that determines spreading performance, application width, and distribution uniformity.<\/p>\n<p>A PTO shaft, also referred to as a Power Take-Off shaft, is the mechanical drivetrain component that transfers rotational power from the tractor’s PTO output yoke to the implement’s gearbox input. Rather than requiring every piece of farm machinery to carry its own engine, the PTO shaft enables a single tractor to power a wide range of implements including rotary tillers, flail mowers, wood chippers, balers, and fertilizer spreaders. The PTO shaft consists of two universal joints connected by a telescoping tube assembly that accommodates the changes in length and angle that occur as the implement follows ground contours relative to the tractor during field operation. A safety guard surrounding the rotating shaft prevents contact with the spinning components and is a mandatory requirement under agricultural safety legislation in most countries.<\/p>\n<p>The connection between the PTO shaft and the gearbox is made at the L-25J’s input spline, where the PTO shaft’s female coupling slides onto the gearbox’s 1-3\/8 inch 6-spline input stub shaft.
