Il constitue l'\u00e9tage final de la transmission de puissance, convertissant le couple faible et la vitesse \u00e9lev\u00e9e du moteur thermique ou hydraulique en un couple \u00e9lev\u00e9 et une vitesse r\u00e9duite pour propulser les chenilles du v\u00e9hicule. Ce r\u00e9ducteur fonctionne selon les principes de l'engrenage \u00e9picyclo\u00efdal et se compose d'un plan\u00e9taire central, de plusieurs satellites mont\u00e9s sur un porte-satellites et d'une couronne dent\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Sur un bulldozer, le r\u00e9ducteur plan\u00e9taire est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement mont\u00e9 sur la roue motrice, permettant un contr\u00f4le pr\u00e9cis du mouvement des chenilles\u00a0: propulsion avant, marche arri\u00e8re et direction diff\u00e9rentielle pour les man\u0153uvres sur terrain accident\u00e9. Ses avantages comprennent une durabilit\u00e9 accrue face aux chocs, une efficacit\u00e9 am\u00e9lior\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la multiplication des chemins de charge et une maintenance r\u00e9duite par rapport aux syst\u00e8mes d'engrenages classiques.
