Sirve como etapa final del sistema de transmisi\u00f3n de potencia, convirtiendo la entrada de alta velocidad y bajo par del motor o del motor hidr\u00e1ulico en una salida de baja velocidad y alto par para impulsar las orugas del veh\u00edculo. Esta caja de engranajes funciona seg\u00fan el principio de engranaje epicicloidal, compuesto por un engranaje solar central, varios engranajes planetarios montados sobre un soporte y un engranaje de corona exterior.<\/p>\n<p>En una excavadora, la caja de engranajes planetarios suele estar montada en la rueda o pi\u00f1\u00f3n de tracci\u00f3n, lo que permite un control preciso del movimiento de las orugas, incluyendo la propulsi\u00f3n hacia adelante, la marcha atr\u00e1s y la direcci\u00f3n diferencial para maniobras en terrenos irregulares. Entre sus ventajas se incluyen una mayor durabilidad contra cargas de impacto, una mayor eficiencia gracias a m\u00faltiples trayectorias de carga y un menor mantenimiento en comparaci\u00f3n con los sistemas de engranajes de toro tradicionales.
