3. Problem: Telescoping Stiffness or Seizure
\nCause and Solution: If the PTO shaft tube or telescoping profile is difficult to slide or has seized, the most frequent cause is dirt, crop debris, or corrosion between the inner and outer tube walls of the PTO shaft tubing. Disassemble the two shaft halves, thoroughly clean the inner and outer profiles with a wire brush and solvent, inspect for scoring or denting of the tube bore, and re-grease with the recommended multi-purpose grease before reassembly. If the inner tube shows visible deformation or if the corrosion has pitted the surface deeply, the tube should be replaced before further operation to prevent the shaft from seizing in the compressed position during a tight turn.<\/p>\n

4. Problem: PTO Shaft Guard Damage or Contact
\nCause and Solution: Damage to the PTO shaft cover or PTO shaft guard is often the result of the anchor chain coming loose, which allows the guard to rotate with the shaft and contact the tractor drawbar or frame. Re-anchor the guard chains at both ends before every field operation. Guards cracked by impact or UV degradation should be replaced immediately; a damaged guard provides inadequate operator protection and fails CE compliance requirements. The disc mower gearbox is an enclosed, oil-lubricated gear transmission integrated into the cutterbar of the machine. In the New Holland Discbine design, the cutterbar uses a modular architecture in which each disc module contains its own sealed gear case. These individual gearboxes are connected in series by hardened alloy intermediate drive shafts, allowing the rotary power input from the main bevel gearbox at the cutterbar input end to be distributed sequentially to each disc module along the full cutting width. Each disc module gearbox steps up the input speed to achieve the required disc rotational velocity of approximately 3,000 RPM at the cutter discs themselves. Unlike the external PTO drive shaft for discbine connection, the internal disc gearboxes are maintenance items that require periodic oil changes and seal inspections, but they are designed for long service intervals and operate in a sealed, protected environment.<\/p>\n
